Each year in the spring, National Work Zone Awareness Week is held to remind motorist that with warmer weather comes an increasing number of highway construction work zones across the country. This year’s theme: Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands makes it clear that every driver shares in the responsibility to keep highway workers, passengers, other motorists and themselves safe. Every driver must slow down, obey road signs and flaggers and eliminate all distractions, especially cell phones when driving through highway work zones. Since 1999, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the Federal Highway Administration and the American Traffic Safety Services Association have teamed up to coordinate and sponsor this national event. We also encourage you to wear orange for safety on "Go Orange Day," Wednesday, April 5. "Go Orange Day." Take a selfie or group photo and post it to social media using hashtag #OrangeForSafety.
