TRAFFIC ALERT - Construction to Begin for Route 24, Mulberry Knoll to Route 1


Rehoboth -- The Delaware Department of Transportation announces to motorists that their contractor, Mumford & Miller Concrete Inc. will begin construction starting on March 3, 2020, to widen Route 24 to four lanes with a center turn lane, stormwater management, milling, paving, and new signals.

At this time, the work hours will be from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, pending weather. The work hours will change in mid-May 2020. A traffic alert will be sent out in May.

This project will involve roadway widening to facilitate the continuation of the existing four lane section with center turn lane from Route 1 to west of Plantations Road.

Due to potential delays, the public is advised to seek alternative routes around this section of Route 24 when feasible.

The contract was awarded to the contractor Mumford & Miller Concrete Inc., the lowest of five bids received with a bid of $6,989,098.46. This contract is 537 calendar days, which includes an allowance of 89 weather days.
