Short-term Lane Closures on Interstate 79 Rescheduled for December 9

Butler, PA–Short-term lane closures on Interstate 79 previously scheduled for December 4 have been cancelled due to weather and rescheduled for Monday, December 9, 2019, from 9 AM to 3 PM, weather permitting. On December 9, motorists traveling on Interstate 79 Southbound in Cranberry Township will encounter short-term single lane closures between mile marker 81.4 to 80.5. A map showing the affected area is available online. Motorists who travel on this section of Interstate 79 Southbound can expect travel delays and should consider alternative routes if possible.

The temporary lane closures will enable crews from Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. to remove the current temporary roadway and move traffic onto the newly constructed bridge that will carry Interstate 79 Southbound traffic over North Boundary Road.

The newly constructed Interstate 79 Southbound bridge is a two-lane, single span, composite steel multi-beam structure, which is the first phase of an overall two-year project. The second phase of this project, to replace the Interstate 79 Northbound structure, will begin in the spring of 2020. The overall cost of the project is $14.6 million dollars.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reminds motorists to slow down and use caution in work zones and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices. Also, fines are doubled for violations in work zones.

For more information on projects occurring or being bid this year, those made possible or accelerated by the state transportation funding plan (Act 89), or those on the department’s Four and Twelve Year Plans, visit www.projects.penndot.gov.
