UPDATE 4:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14: The Custer rest area will now reopen by 7:30 a.m.
on Friday, Nov. 15. Crews are waiting for an epoxy to dry, before turning pressure back on to the sewer system and reopening the areas.
Seasonal maintenance to close I-5 Custer rest area Nov. 13-14
BLAINE – Sewer work and seasonal maintenance will close the Interstate 5 Custer safety rest area from 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.
During the closure, Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will clean parking lots and gutters, repair roofs and sewers, and perform seasonal maintenance.
The Custer rest area is the final WSDOT rest area on I-5 before the Canadian border. Travelers can use the northbound and southbound
Hill safety rest areas north of Burlington at milepost 238 during this closure.
