- TRAFFIC ADVISORY UPDATE-
NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN STARTING TOMORROW
FOR VICTORY HIGHWAY BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced the start of the second phase of construction for the Victory Highway Bridge, which carries approximately 9,000 vehicles per day on Route 102 (Victory Highway) over I-95 in West Greenwich.

Effective tomorrow, Tuesday, February 12, traffic on Route 102 North will be shifted to the new Northbound bridge, followed by traffic on Route 102 South on Wednesday, February 13. Two-way traffic will be maintained, as well as access to all on and off-ramps.

The traffic pattern change will move traffic onto a newly constructed portion of the bridge while the Department demolishes and builds the new south side of the structure. This traffic pattern change was anticipated to take place this summer, but work is proceeding ahead of schedule.

Built in 1969, this bridge has been classified as structurally deficient since 1995. The new bridge is being built in phases to reduce the impact on the motoring public. With day and night work planned, RIDOT will also resurface the Route 102 approaches and ramps to the two-span bridge, replace signing, striping and guardrail, and do minor landscaping and drainage work.

The $19 million project is on track for slated for substantial completion in Fall 2020. All schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change
.

The replacement of the Victory Highway Bridge was made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create jobs
