AASHTO and CMC & Associates said they will conduct five one-week National Transportation Management Conferences during 2018, starting in Tampa, Fla., in July and ending in Spokane, Wash., in October.
AASHTO sponsors the conferences and CMC conducts them, taking a limited number of participants for each event who are selected from a list of nominees.
Sponsors said the training "has proven to be an effective way to increase essential management skills and to develop leadership abilities. It has been extremely useful to middle managers as they transition from technical work to primarily managerial responsibilities."
A conference brochure notes that the sessions "are tailored specifically for staff members of AASHTO member departments and affiliated organizations, including the U.S. Department of Transportation."
The brochure, available here, includes nomination forms, cutoff dates for submissions ahead of each event and other details. And here is a link for online registration.
The 2018 conferences will be under the direction of lead instructor William D.S. Smitley, while Thomas Barry and Eugene Conti make up the rest of the training staff. Officials from the Federal Highway Administration and AASHTO will also make presentations.
They will conduct the programs July 16-19 in Tampa; Aug. 6-9 in Madison, Wis.; Aug. 20-23 in San Antonio; Sept. 17-20 in Annapolis, Md.; and Oct. 22-25 in Spokane.
Online voting is now underway to decide the People's Choice Award winner in the annual Faces of Transportation photography and video contest sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
