WASHINGTON, DC – The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials today announced the launch of AASHTOMobile, an iPhone app designed to provide the latest in transportation news, video content, and real-time traffic conditions.
"Americans are on the move, now more than ever, and we believe this is one way to meet their demand for greater access to information while on the go," said John Horsley, AASHTO executive director.
The mobile app, which is available for download in the iTunes App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/app/aashto-mobile/id419618952?mt=8), includes real-time traffic information powered by INRIX, a provider of traffic information and driving services to leading automakers, navigation providers, and transportation agencies around the world. With INRIX real-time traffic maps covering more than 1 million miles of highways, interstates, arterials, and city streets across cities nationwide, the app helps consumers know the most current traffic conditions helping them save time, use less gas, and reduce carbon emissions on their daily commutes.
The app also features optimized versions of two popular transportation news sites: the Daily Transportation Update and the AASHTO Journal, a weekly news report. In addition, the app offers the latest AASHTO news releases and direct links to more than 100 original AASHTO videos including a weekly newscast through its online video channel, Transportation TV.
An Android version of the app is planned for release later this year.
The app was developed by iENGINEERING of Chantilly, Virginia, a global information-engineering firm specializing in the development of engineering software and collaborative e-business applications.
