TRAFFIC ADVISORY -
RIDOT TO ESTABLISH DETOUR FOR PORTION
OF ROUTE 117 EAST IN WARWICK
Traffic change necessary for Centerville Road Bridge rehabilitation
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced it will implement a detour for a portion of Route 117 East in Warwick effective Monday, February 18. The detour is needed to provide a safe work zone as part of the $6.1 million reconstruction of the Centerville Road Bridge, which carries Route 117 over Route 2, close to the West Warwick line.
By establishing this detour, RIDOT will be able to shave approximately six months off the project timeline, finishing by the end of the year instead of Spring 2020. The detour itself only will be needed until mid-summer.
The detour will only affect eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic will not be affected. A detour map is available online
at
www.ridot.net/detourmaps
.
Turn-by-turn directions for Route 117 East
are as follows:
Turn right onto Quaker Lane
Turn left onto Ginsu Way
Turn left onto Bald Hill Road/Route 2 North
Bear right at the next exit to return to Route 117
While the detour is in place, Route 117 East past the intersection with Quaker Lane will remain open for local traffic and access to businesses including Inskip Automall, the Treehouse Tavern, Santandar Bank and professional offices. The Dunkin Donuts/National Guard Recruiting Office building is located just past the bridge, but is easily accessed off the detour route by turning left the end of the ramp from Route 2 to Route 117.
The Centerville Road Bridge was built in 1951 and is considered functionally obsolete. It carries about 28,000 vehicles per day. RIDOT will rehabilitate the bridge's superstructure, substructure and its deck. The road at the bridge will be paved and sidewalks will be replaced.
All schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
The rehabilitation of the Centerville Road Bridge was made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create job
